The Amalfi Coast is a 43-mile stretch of coastline along the southern edge of the Sorrentine Peninsula. It is also located near Naples and Sorrento and provides a great opportunity for a nice day trip to several towns/cities. If you like lovely beaches, great food, and gorgeous views: then this is the perfect getaway for you.
A trip to the Amalfi Coast can be as busy or relaxing as you desire it to be. You can plan a nice relaxing day and just spend some time on the beach, go sailing, or take advantage of one of the cruise tours and learn about the architecture of the area. Personally, when traveling overseas I like to cram as many activities and sites as I can into each trip. Especially in Europe because it so easy to travel to other cities and countries while there. So if you decide to visit the Amalfi Coast definitely take the opportunity to visit Naples and/or Sorrento. Both places are lovely with colorful lemon and orange trees everywhere and while I didn’t truly care for Limoncello I loved the lemon ices sold by the street vendors. Since Naples is the birthplace of pizza, you absolutely must grab a slice while you are there. You can also take a day trip to Pompeii and tour the ancient city.
Your vacation would not be complete without at least a mini shopping spree and trying out a few hundred pasta dishes. This leads us to Positano, a village and commune of the Amalfi Coast, a great central location that is popular for its dining options, shopping, and beautiful views. During your shopping be sure to check out the lemon products like soaps and candies and the beautiful leather handbags and wallets.
Have you been to the Amalfi Coast? Tell us what your favorite things to do there were? As for me I loved the neighboring towns and the food! Not to mention the views of the beautiful colorful homes that are stacked on the hills and the friendly people. I can’t wait for my next trip back to Italy.
